If I am not mistaken these are silicone based products that in cars always leave a residue, is it prudent to use them on optics?

It recently happen on SONY 24-70 GM II, it was second hand from a dealer, was no dust in lens, was like new. I made sure when I got it, checked it. Only used it a few times, now there's dust inside, just one dust grain. Not sure how it got inside. Only had it around 2 weeks I think.

I wear a breath mask to keep moisture from forming on the lens. I also use the gloves to keep oil off of things. Maybe I am being anal, but it makes me feel a bit safer. If viewers want to do this the first time, they could get a junk lens and play around with that until they are confident before messing up a $500 plus lens.

If you have an old casette tape eraser, you can use it to magnetize (or de-magnetize) your screwdriver tips, then the screws don't fall and stick to the screwdriver. To magnetize, put the screwdriver tip against the part where you would lay on top of a casette, a short burst of magnetism and presto, magnetized tip. To de-magnetize, turn on the demagnetizer, bring it to the screwdriver and pull away while it it still on.

The rubber bands on all L lenses are held on by friction…..not adhesive. Easy to remove and scrub clean away from the dangers of leaving it on while cleaning imo.

how to clean the back side of the lens

when putting back the circle cover will the glue still sticky enough? do you glue it again? what kind of glue? Can you also dry wipe if glass is full of fungus? i afraid that soap or any solvent might damage the special coating

I have the same model lens and saw a smudge and got worried if I need to take it to a camera repair shop to get it cleaned but seeing your video, I feel confident I could handle this myself at home.

I once had an old Chevy van that had windows all the way around. Those windows had black rubber window-gaskets. The rubber looked awful. Old, faded black, mungy and dirty. I cleaned each gasket and put amourall spray on a rag and wiped all the gaskets down good. Next day it rained and ALL the windows leaked rain water inside of the van. Prior to the treatment, the old mungy dried-out black rubber gaskets did NOT leak. True story. 🦆🐟🐳🐸

I think its best to use AIR first, the a gentle BRUSH, then if you still need the cloth use it last.

Very clear video. I have a Canon 8mm movie camera with fog inside the lens. I sure hope it isn't deep into the lens. Now I have to locate a quality magnetic mini screwdriver. Thanks

Might do it when i feel brave enough. I had to return a rf 24-70 2.8 because it has a rather large speck of dust brand new and now the one i got as a replacement has gotten a piece of dust in it as well.. not as dramatic as the first, but still.. makes me lose confidence in buying l glass.

Hello. I accidentally dropped my camera, denting the telephoto chamber's edge of my EF 24-70 mm. No major operational issues, but cosmetically doesn't look pleasant. Repairing it would cost me an arm. What can you suggest me to restore the way it looked or similarly?
